I just finished registering for my fall semester. I'm super excited for my class schedule. Here's what I'm taking:
English 2: Meh. It's a prerequisite.
Introductory Speech: This is also a prerequisite, but I'm actually quite excited about this class. It's like an English class, but I get to "talk" my paper, instead of submitting a written essay. I love speaking in front of an audience. I'm going to do my best to kick butt in this class.
History of the United States from 1877 to Present: I like history, truth be told. I don't fall asleep in these type of classes. And it's about the period of US history I'm most interested in. I'm hoping this will be an easy 'A'. I still need good grades for graduate school.
Music Appreciation: This is the class I'm most looking forward to. I'm going to study classical music, medieval, baroque music, romantic, and contempoary music. Lover-ly! It will be absolutely fantastic. I'm getting giddy just thinking about it.
So that's my schedule. I'm taking the least number of credits to be considered a full-time student. And if the classes don't look so hot in the first couple of weeks, I can drop them without adversely affecting my transcript and GPA. The best news of all? Uncle Sam's paying for the whole year. That's right--I got a Pell Grant! It's a huge sigh of relief knowing that my whole junior (sophomore? I'm a litttle behind my peers...) year of college is paid for! Yes, yes, I'm very happy.

In other news, Carlos got a new job so much slower to home. Only a 20-minute commute! That makes me a lot happier. He works nights, so I can go to school and just leave Gino at home with him. I'll still need daycare a couple days a week, but we can definitely manage it. At his new job, Carlos has a smaller hourly wage, but when we compared it to how much he was making in Chicago minus the costs of train tickets and gasoline, he's actually making more working close to home! That's what I'm talking about. Life is finally looking up for us.

@omgitsmackie@xanga - Just fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid--or something like that). They ask what school you want to receive the FAFSA. Then the school's financial aid office does some processing of their own. I didn't think I'd get one because I submitted mine so late. I could have gotten another grant to pay for books, but I turned in my FAFSA way too late. Oh well, I'll be super early next year.
that is AWESOME! Im happy for you!
I totally understand what you mean about commuting costs. They really can kill you!
@der_lila_Stern@xanga - Yes, slowly and painfully.
