Raise your hand if you know what bubble tea is. (If you do, put your hand down--you look silly.

). Bubble tea is a delicous fruity smoothie that contains tapioca pearls in it. When you drink it, you have a wide straw to suck up the "bubbles". They taste kind of like gummy bears. You can get bubble tea as a smoothie, tea, with milk, and even other jellies in place of the tapioca pearls. (I'm fond of the rainbow jelly). This drink is all the rage in Asia, and it made it's way to the USA, where it's been popular on the West Coast. Living in Seattle, there were so many different bubble tea places--by my college, they outnumbered the Starbucks and other coffee shoppes!
Then when I came to Illinois, and mentioned bubble tea, people were like, "Bubble what?". Then I made the equally devastating discovery that the nearest smoothie shoppe only served bubble tea on the weekends--not enough for my fix! Now I have to go all to the way to Chinatown, Chicago to get some authentic bubble tea. So now, I feel an entrepreneurial bug biting me. I want to open up my own bubble tea place! It will be awesome. I will serve bubble tea, milk tea, fruit smoothie and offer all the accoutrements. You can get tapioca pearls, rainbow jelly, lime jelly, mango jelly, or a combination. I will serve many smoothie flavors from the traditional strawberry and cantaloupe to the exotic passionfruit and coconut.
I will call it "Bubble Tea Paradise". But that name can change when I find something more inspiring. I will have tables and chairs, sofas, and board games for people to play. I'm going to have a huge chalkboard menu with colorful, pretty chalk. It will be awesome. But I've already pointed that out. I think bubble tea will be insanely popular with the younger crowd and word will spread. And there's no place like it in my area, so I'll have a huge customer base to tap into! It will be a lot of fun.
Me getting with bubble tea with the hubby. Except back then, he was my fiance.

You'll have to give me some recommendations on what to get. I had no idea, so I just got what the girl in front of me got. I thought she had a watermelon smoothie, but apparently she got the watermelon tea with milk. I did ask the guy beforehand what she got, but I couldn't understand him... and I knew if I would've asked him to repeat himself, I still wouldn't have understood a damn thing he said.
So... the tea with milk isn't my cup of tea. I'm eager to try their smoothies, though. You can never go wrong with those. I think...
@omgitsmackie@xanga - I've actually never tried the teas with milk--that will change when I start my business. But I am very fond of their fruit smoothies--definitely can't go wrong with those.
I <3 Bubble Tea
But over here in Ca we call them Boba(or at least in my town)
You should totally open one
all the asians and filipinos will flood it
@Kathleen_g@xanga - At the shoppe in the mall, they call it boba. Yeah, bubble tea would be very popular with the Asians! Too bad there's not a lot of us in my town, but oh well. All it takes is one person's recommendation!
Oooooh I think I see those wheels turning in your head... this is a very cool idea. You totally have my support. When your place is all ready and set, can I get hook-ups though? ;)
@Southeast_Beauty@xanga - Most definitely, Firda!
I have never heard of that. But I will definitely have to give it a try when I come across a shop that sells it!
@der_lila_Stern@xanga - Yes, you should! I don't think you will regret it.
I love bubbles tea or boba tea!!!! =)
@snowy87days@xanga - I am in serious bubble tea withdrawal here. Nobody sells it!
@RoAngie467 - Don't you live in chicago?
When I was back home, I didn't know what was boba tea until I moved to my university city. Then, my Asian friend was like try it, Asians people love it. And I loved it. Here, we have like four boba tea shops. One makes the best boba tea ever. I usually get black tea with boba or Jasmine Milk tea with boba. What about you?
OMG, I want boba tea now!!! lol.
@snowy87days@xanga - I live about an hour-and-a-half away from Chicago. Surrounded by farms, actually. People here are like, 'Bubble what?" I know in Chinatown, they have a ton of bubble tea shops, but it's so expensive to go to Chicago. Hmm, I've never tried the tea with boba. I get the fruit juice or smoothies with the tapioca. I like to add rainbow jelly too if the shop carries it.
Oh man, next time I go to Chicago, I'm not leaving without bubble tea!
Mmmmm. Just spent a month in China. Two words.... Happy Lemon. Look it up ;D
I lived in Vancouver, Washington for a while a me & my friend were so addicted to Bubble Tea. We'd get it once or twice a day at least. My absolute favorite was the Honeydew Milk Tea (iced)... I was devastated when I moved back to my home town & not only is there no Bubble Tea here but nobody has even heard of it!
@PaytonFamily@xanga - Oh, that sounds delicious! I don't think I've had it with milk, but I'll definitely give it a try. The next time I come across bubble tea, that is. I'm pretty devastated that there's no bubble tea here. I have to go all the way to Chicago to get some!
